Who am I

Success in life begins with knowing, "Who am I? What is the purpose of my life?" Knowledge of the self exists; but sincere seekers are rare. More rare are the great teachers of such wisdom. Since time immemorial, wise men have described our wonderful nature: spiritual, primeval, ever-existing, undying, unchangeable, imperishable. This selection of the writings of Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa (Chris Butler) shares that timeless wisdom — inspiring, challenging , practical.

THIRTEEN

1
Lord, there is now nothing left that may be called mine,
Thou alone art my father, friends, brother.

2
Friends, wife, sons, daughters, are now Thy servants:
My efforts for them are on Thy account.

3
Wealth, followers,
House, way -
Inasmuch as they belong to Thee,
I maintain, myself being mere a servant.

4
For Thy service, I earn riches,
And bear the expenses of Thy household.

5
I know neither evil nor good, I only serve,
A watchman set to guard the properties of Thy household.

6
My senses I exercise according to Thy direction,
And desire to hear, see, smell and taste.

7
Nothing I do for my own pleasure,
"Thy pleasure is the essence," say Bhaktivinode.

PERFECTION ? BEING IN TUNE WITH REALITY
The body is yours'but it is not you. The body is a garment that you are wearing, a machine that you are using, a vehicle that you are driving. The body is your possession. Just as a person does not identify himself as being the shirt he is wearing, he also should not identify himself with the body that he is wearing.
