Who am I

Success in life begins with knowing, "Who am I? What is the purpose of my life?" Knowledge of the self exists; but sincere seekers are rare. More rare are the great teachers of such wisdom. Since time immemorial, wise men have described our wonderful nature: spiritual, primeval, ever-existing, undying, unchangeable, imperishable. This selection of the writings of Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa (Chris Butler) shares that timeless wisdom — inspiring, challenging , practical.

EIGHTEEN

1
For the maintenance of wife, son, body, kin,
I was ever anxious in my mind.

2
And how to earn money, win fame,
Accomplish the marriage of son and daughter.

3
By self-surrender there is no more anxiety now
Thou, Lord, will provide for the maintenance of Thy household.

4
Thou wilt surely maintain me recognizing me as Thy own servant,
I feel the greatest joy serving Thee, Oh Lord.

5
All things happen by Thy will, Oh Lord,
The jiva says "I am the actor," it is not true,

6
Can the jiva do anything unless Thou doest?
The jiva can only hope for such is Thy will.

7
I will serve Thee relieved of all anxiety.
I am not responsible for any good or evil in the household.

8
Bhaktivinode giving up his own freedom without
Desiring any other thing serves only Thy feet.

Most people who have actually experienced leaving their bodies and existing outside their bodies no longer identify their bodies as themselves. They know that they can and will exist without the body. They no longer view death as the end of their existence.
