Who am I

Success in life begins with knowing, "Who am I? What is the purpose of my life?" Knowledge of the self exists; but sincere seekers are rare. More rare are the great teachers of such wisdom. Since time immemorial, wise men have described our wonderful nature: spiritual, primeval, ever-existing, undying, unchangeable, imperishable. This selection of the writings of Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa (Chris Butler) shares that timeless wisdom — inspiring, challenging , practical.

THIRTY

1
In Godrum dham, favorable to service,
Equaling Sri Nandisvar in Mathura ?

2
Inside the same, in the grove cottage of Surabhi,
I'll dwell on the bank of the celestial stream,

3
Clad in the garb that is dear to the devotee of Gaura,
Adorned with tilak and a garland of tulsi,

4
By planting Champaka, Bakula, Kadamba,Tamala ?
I will make an extended grove,

5
On them I will put Madhabi and Malathi creepers,
And so make the mandapa for shade,

6
I will plant the grove with a range of flowery woods,
The yuthi, jati, malli, will put forth their charms to adorn the place,

7
I will make Empress Tulsi take the seat of honor on the terrace,
I will procure all the requisites for kirtan and place them there.

8
I will sing the Name in the company of the servants of the Vaishnavas,
Glory to Godruma! Glory to the abode of Gaur!

9
Bhaktivinode is favorable to service,
Glory to the grove in blossom and the bank
Of the divine stream.

A person who tries to be a goswami is careful not to engage in those activities that are harmful to his spiritual development. For example, he refrains from taking intoxicants (including all sorts of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and so on); from having illicit sex; from gambling; and from eating meat, fish, and eggs.
